"The Choice for Change"
Jon A.
Gegenheimer was first
elected as Clerk of Court of Jefferson Parish on November 21, 1987. Mr. Gegenheimer
had been a full-time
practicing attorney since 1971. Over the years, he gained extensive experience in civil and criminal law at the
state and federal levels. He served as staff attorney for the Department of Health and Human
Resources, State of Louisiana from 1981 to 1987 and as City Attorney for the City of
Gretna from 1982 to 1988. He taught commercial law at Our Lady of Holy Cross College
from 1979 to 1987. Mr. Gegenheimer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from
Loyola University, a Juris Doctorate from Loyola University School of Law, where
he served on the Loyola Law Review staff, and a Master of
Laws in Admiralty from Tulane University School of Law.
Mr. Gegenheimer was re-elected in 1991, when he garnered 80% of the
vote. He was unopposed for re-election in 1995, 1999, 2003, and 2007.
Mr. Gegenheimer has received international acclaim from attorneys, judges, and
court administrators for his significant innovations in court administration, elections
administration, and land records management. When he assumed office in
1988, he
inherited a disorganized and bankrupt office.
Mr. Gegenheimer acted quickly to transform the office
into an efficient operation dedicated first and foremost to public service.
He is focused now on adapting the court, elections, jury, and land records
systems of Jefferson Parish to the information age by implementing electronic
imaging and retrieval procedures, the electronic transfer and filing of real
estate documents, electronic filing in the courts, and internet access to all of
the public records under the clerk of court's custody and control.
