Election Commissioner Training
Classes online or in-person are now available for anyone interested in becoming a certified Commissioner to work all elections in Jefferson Parish. Your Commissioner certification will be valid until December 31, 2024. In-person classes will be on the Eastbank January 25, 2021 through January 28, 2021 and on the Westbank February 1, 2021 through February 4, 2021. Due to COVID-19 you must call (504)736-6394 to schedule your in-person class. You may also become certified through online training (see below). For each election, the clerk of court must staff and manage various polling locations in neighborhoods throughout Jefferson Parish (272 precincts in 149 locations). This requires the work and commitment of nearly 1,400 election commissioners who must be trained to manage the complexities of the voting process. Each precinct is staffed with a commissioner-in-charge and four commissioners. The clerk of court encourages citizens to participate in the elections process as a commissioner, because fully-staffed precincts are essential to the integrity of the voting process.
