The Jefferson Parish clerk of court serves as clerk for Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court, which has jurisdiction parish-wide. The court, established in 1958, has three sections whose judges are elected to six-year terms, and hearing officers who are appointed by the Court en banc. The court’s areas of responsibilities include criminal charges against juveniles, non-support payment disputes, adoptions, juvenile traffic violations, criminal neglect of family, etc. Matters arising out of the Juvenile Court may be appealed to the 24th Judicial District Court.
Juvenile Court records are
closed records not available for public examination. To view a juvenile court record, one must petition the Court. For more information, visit the Court’s web site: ww.jpjc.org.
Additionally, the clerk of court offers birth and death certificate services at its parish court and juvenile court locations.
