EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2026, FAX FILINGS WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED FOR CIVIL OR CRIMINAL MATTERS. This includes fax filings sent to the fax filing numbers, and also fax filings sent to the fax filing email addresses. Filings by an attorney shall be filed in person in paper form or transmitted electronically through the JeffNet system. Filings by non-attorneys may be filed by mail, other commercial courier service, in person, or through the JeffNet system. There are exceptions for certain types of documents, such as original wills or testaments, promissory notes, and certain evidence; however filing by fax will be prohibited effective January 1, 2026 for all filings. Please refer to ACT No. 352, HB No. 310 of the 2025 Regular Legislative Session, and ACT No. 694, HB No. 380 of the 2024 Regular Legislative Session for additional information.
Effective August 1, 2024, for those recording documents via paper format in the Mortgage and Conveyance records, you must submit a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage for the original paper format documents to be returned to you after the documents have been quality checked and recorded. Otherwise, the paper format documents will be held for pick up for a period of 30 days from the date of recordation. After that 30-day period, the paper documents will be disposed of in the normal course of business in accordance with retention schedules approved by the Louisiana Secretary of State.
